„Hego promised us a surprise. Instead of telling us now what it was, he took us to a walk through the city. In the end we stopped on a bridge and looked at the Go Tower, the landmark of Go City.“
„Okay, this...is a very big 'Go'. Probably the biggest one, I've ever seen“, said Mego.
„And? What do you think of it?“ wanted Hego to know.
Shego answered with reserved enthusiasm: „Well, at least it's not standing in anyone's way. Imagine they put it on the main street. Nobody would be able to pass it. The traffic jams would be horrible. Why do you show this to us? We know the Go Tower. We grew up in this city.“
Hego smiled. „Then you surely know what's inside the Go Tower, don't you?“
„Nothing“, sighed Shego. „Originally it was supposed to have something inside. The Go Tower is empty.“
„For those of you who don't know. In the end of the 1970's it was planned to let a world expo take place in Go City. The mayor at that time, spent a lot of tax money to arrange the city for that. To that came also some millions from sponsors and even some benefits from the government. The Go Tower was built and it was supposed to contain some information desks and stuff like that. Then one day the mayor disappeared with all the money. There was no expo and the Go Tower was never in use. And neither the mayor, nor the money where ever been found. The end.“
Hego's smile broadened. „Well, the Go Tower is not empty anymore.“
„And what's now in it?“ asked Mego.
„Let me say it this way. The Go Tower is from now on the ultimate fortress of justice.“
„Cool. So what's in it?“
Hego brought his siblings to the tower.
He answered all of their questions just with: „Wait and see.“
In the end, they reached the front door.
„Surprise #1. To get inside the tower, you have to use your glow.“
He made his hand glow and put in on a pad, right next to the door, which opened immediately.
„Whoa“, said the twins in wonder.
„Okay brother, you got my attention with that“, said Mego and Shego asked, still slightly unconcerned: „Is there also a key under the doormat? You never know when you need it.“
„No. There isn't. Come in.“
The twins ran first across the heavy iron door, into the tower. Mego followed them in an instant. Shego sighed before she walked in, too.
„And? And? What do you think about it?“ asked Hego and jumped excited from one foot to another.
„In front of me was the biggest Superhero-headquarters I had ever seen. In fact, it was the first Superhero-headquarters I had ever seen, but this isn't important. There were lights blinking everywhere and then there was this huge screen. It was just overwhelming. Even for such a cynic like me.“
„Wow“, gasped Mego.
Shego looked around with her eyes wide open. The twins asked themselves, which one of the blinking buttons they should push first.
„So I finally managed to make you speechless. Come on, you haven't seen everything yet. And don't you two dare to push any buttons!“
„We...“ „...won't“, answered the twins in their usual, complementary way.
„He showed us everything. The jet and the extendable airstrip, the ray-shelter, the kitchen, the toilets, how to use the surveillance satellite and so on.“
„Big brother“, said Shego, „I must admit, you did this right.“
Hego blushed.
„She's right, Hego. If there was anything we needed, it was a headquarter. Doesn't matter what happens now, we are prepared for it.“
Then Shego asked the important question.
„How much did you pay for this?“
„Oh, I got it pretty cheap. The Go Tower was almost free. I just had to make a few arrangements with the city management, so there's a special telephone line running from the city hall to our headquarter and sometimes we have to do some other stuff for them. I tell you all later. The equipment didn't even cost much either. I mean, when one considers how huge this screen is and that we can tap a satellite and that we got a jet and so on. It were barely 64 million Dollar. Hollywood films cost more.“
„64 millions?“ asked Shego.
„Yes.“
„That's pretty cheap. Okay, I don't know the prices for superhero stuff, but 64 millions are small beer. Except for the fact that WE ONLY HAD 65 MILLION DOLLAR, FROM WHICH YOU ALREADY WASTED ONE MILLION TO THE MAN FROM THE YOUTH WELFARE!“
Hego blinked once with his eyes.
„You...don't have to yell. I'm standing right in front of you.“
Mego asked: „Does that mean we are broke?“
„No, I told you it were barely 64 millions.“
„So we are only almost broke?“
„We got still 750 Dollar. That...are almost 1000.“
Shego closed her eyes, took a deep breath and held it. Her brothers looked in this breathless seconds fascinated at her, and expected her to explode every moment. This didn't happen.
Instead she breathed out after a few moments and said calm: „Okay, just cool down, everybody.“
„I've been cool all the time.“
„I SAID WE COO...we cool down. If we look at all this sober, everything is great. We are superheroes, we needed a headquarter, with lots of useful gimmicks. And I think that Vince had spent the money sooner or later for all this, too. There are just a few problems. Firstly, you should have asked us.“
„It was supposed to be a surprise.“
„Nice. We are surprised. Secondly, I wonder how we should care for us, now, that we got only 750 Dollar left.“
„Well, we can live here. It's free. We get electricity through the solar cells and the generators, so we don't have to pay for this either. And by day I work at Bueno Nacho, so I can take now and then some food from there for free and so we save some more money.“
„Yaaaaaaay!“ cheered the twins.
Shego jumped in pretended happiness up and down.
„Yay, I can eat every day Nachos and Chimmeritos! I think I'm in heaven and I really look forward to all the health damages!“
„I think it's time for me to say something here“, said Mego, as suddenly a siren started.
„An emergency! We are needed!“
„That horrible alert started everytime, when a Cat climbed up on a tree. It was a disgusting, impossible to stand noise. But this time it wasn't about a cat, it was about a money transporter, which got stolen by a few gangsters and was now chased by the police. We jumped right into the Go-Mobile...what a stupid name...to join the fun. By the way, at this point none of us had a drivers license, but thanks to Vince, we didn't need this formality. We let the twins been supervised by a Superhero-Babysitter. Long story, but Hego found him over the guy, who made our costumes.“
„There they are!“
„Yes, Hego, we can see them. The money transporter with the men, who shoot at the police cars behind them.“
„Do you have to be even on a car chase so negative, sis?“
„Do you have to drive even on a car chase so defensive? Put the pedal to the metal!“
„I just don't wanna cause an accident.“
„But you also wanna catch the bad guys, don't you?“
„Shall I drive?“
„Good idea! Let Mego drive.“
„No, Mego won't drive now.“
„Why not? Do you think I'm not such a good driver as you are?“
„No, but if I stop and we switch seats, we will loose the Gangsters.“
„Not when I'm behind the wheel!“
Hego stepped on the brake.
„Okay, so you drive.“
He and Mego got out of the car and switched the seats. Hego just got into the car, when his brother drove away with full throttle.
„Hey, I'm not even strapped!“
„Me neither“, replied Mego.
„Well, you should! Are you strapped, Shego?“
„Yes, although safety belts caused some deaths. Hey, what's going on there?“
One of the gangsters managed to shoot a tire of their persecutors. The police car began to slide, its backers tried to avoid and it all ended in one huge street plugging pile of metal.
„Fasten your seatbelts, I jump over it!“
„I told you, that Vince trained us, according to our individual strengths. Mego's strength were brainless car stunts.“
„Okay, you can open your eyes again. We landed save.“
„I didn't close my eyes“, said Shego.
„Me neither.“
„Oh...then...I've been the only one“, mumbled Mego.
Suddenly something huge came out of the transporter at the Go-mobile.
Shego and Hego yelled: „Watch out!!“
Mego stepped on the brakes and turned the wheel around. When the car stopped, Team Go recognized, what they almost collided with. It was one of the gangsters!
„Shego, get out“, commanded Hego.
„Why me? Why at all?“
„Someone has to give first aid and arrest him.“
„Why don't you do this?“
„Because you are the youngest of us and it could get very dangerous later.“
„Hey, I'm better than...“
„Please, no discussions, the bad guys escape!“
Shego got angry out of the car. Mego drove on immediately.
„Hey, you, Gangster“, called Shego, while she came with glowing hands closer to the man, who tried to crawl away slowly. „You are under arrest! And if you behave, I take care of your injuries.“
The old Shego took a short look at the clock on the wall.
„Almost midnight. We better quit for today. I gave my dialog partner to the police. My brothers were able to catch the rest of the gang. I heard, it was an exciting chase, but unfortunately I wasn't there. Then...see you tomorrow.“
Washington switched off the camera and yawned.
„You don't know a good hotel, don't you?“
Shego took a keycard out of a drawer and passed it to Julian.
„I rented a room for you in this hotel.“
„One for both?“
„Hey, you have the chance to spend the night in one of the most expensive hotels in the world, so don't complain. We meet again tomorrow, exactly at 9 a.m. . Good night!“
Shego pushed her guests out of her room and closed the door behind them.
When she was alone, she took a deep breath and drove to the balcony. It was an almost cloudless sky and a bright full moon shined down on her. She closed her eyes and enjoyed for a few seconds the moonlight on her skin. When she opened her eyes again, she whispered: „Damn“, and got with a tear in the corner of her eye back into her room.
Julian and Washington had meanwhile reached their room, too.
When he saw the small storeroom in the washkitchen of the hotel, which was their room for tonight, Washington also had a tear in his eye. Even if it was for a different reason.
„Well,“ said Julian, „at least we can tell the others, that we spend a night in that hotel and don't have to lie to them. We just...don't talk about too many details.“
