„When Aviarius broke out of prison for the first time, he kidnapped some scientists who were grabbed to build for him... something. So we flew to his lair and got to work.“
Again the team parked their jet in a valley, near Aviarius' secret lair.
„What's our plan, fearless leader?“ asked Shego of her brother.
Hego answered: „We proceed as supplied before. Through the front door, surprise effect, catch Aviarius, do what we do, done.“
„Uhm, brother? You do remember what happened the last time we just walked through the front door, don't you?“ asked Mego. „Because I remember very well what happened.“
„Don't worry. The trap that caught us the last time won't be there anymore. Since the last time he will have removed it. He must expect that we told everybody about the trap behind the front door and that we won't use said front door anymore. Instead, he will expect us to sneak in somewhere else, where the trap really will be.“
„Indeed. Let's go.“
Shego held Mego on his collar.
„Wait, not so fast. This is nonsense!“
„Why? It sounds plausible to me. You don't wanna go through the front door, because we walked into a trap last time. Aviarius will think of the same thing too, that we won't go through the front door. It's a perfect plan! Absolutely psychologic and so on.“
Shego sighed deeply.
„Do you want to come with us?“ asked Hego.
„Yeah,“ she sighed, „whatever.“
„And so we went again through the main entrance of Aviarius' lair. And guess what! After less than a minute we were stuck in exactly the same, giant birdcage, in which we had already been in the last time.“
Shego punched Hego's shoulder.
„Ouch! What was this for?“
„Take a look around, remember the little discussion we had outside and then think if you really wanna ask this question again.“
At that moment, the floor of the cage got opened again and the whole family slid down the hidden slide again, into the huge, dark room.
„Okay,“ said Shego after the again very hard landing, „I should have foreseen this.“
Mego got up slowly.
„Y'know, the 2nd time it's not that bad. I'm doing well this time.“
„But don't let this slide become a habit,“ said Hego.
His sister applauded.
„Hooray! Finally someone says something good.“
„Your sarcasm won't help us out of here, sis.“
„No, but it didn't bring us into this situation.“
Hego ignored this remark and looked around. Like last time, they were inside of a spotlight, while around them was just darkness.
„What horrible things may be lurking for us in that darkness,“ he asked into the room.
„We'll take...“ „...a look,“ answered the twins, began to glow and walked with four more copies of them, as living flashlights into the dark.
„There is nothing!“ shouted the six after a short while.
„Hm, this is odd,“ said Hego calmly, while scratching his chin. „But I'm sure the worst is yet to come. He wants to lull us into a false sense of security and then he strikes. I think it's better that we sit and see what happens.“
„And so we waited. But after 20 minutes, still nothing had happened.“
Hego looked angrily at his watch.
„This is more than rude. You shouldn't behave like that when you are a villain.“
„What do you mean? Has Aviarius not the right to let us rot in a dark dungeon?“
„Oh Shego, he can do with us whatever he wants, but it is advisable to talk to us through a speaker and say at at least something like 'Now you will be forever trapped in my dungeon, hahahahaha'. Tradition demands that he tells us his plan first and then activates a slow, but deadly trap and leaves us alone.“
„You see what a cliche this is?“
„Maybe he wants to try something new?“
„You think so?“
„Got no idea. I don't care anyway.“
„If you wanna hear my opinion,“ said Mego to bring himself into the dialogue, „we should just ask him. And the best way to do that is to get out of here. So who wants to help me break out?“
„Wow, Mego is right for once, too! Wasn't there a door anywhere, when we were here the last time?“
„Do you think we can open it from inside the room, sis?“
„Oh, you are right. I don't think we can. This sucks. Unfortunately none of us is strong enough to break the door open. Hey, wait! If I remember right,--“
„Yes, we all know what you mean,“ said Hego and began to search for the door, which he broke with just one punch.
„If this bang doesn't make him wanna talk with us, then I don't know what to do anymore.“
„Does he have to talk to us anyway?“
„No. Let's just look for him and the kidnapped scientists.“
At that moment came a visibly surprised Aviarius around the corner.
„Hey, what the...oh. It's you.“
Team Go was surprised by the sudden appearance of their enemy, too.
„Uhm, yes. It's us!“
Then the opponents looked silently at each other until Shego broke the silence.: „Where are the kidnapped scientists!?“
Avarius answered: „Oh yeah, them. Catch me,“ and ran away.
The team followed him, but the chase ended suddenly in another dark room.
„Wow, this lair's got lots of huge, dark rooms,“ said Hego, and he and his siblings began to light up the room by themself.
„Let me do this for you,“ said Aviarius through a speaker and turned on the lights.
Again was the team surrounded by hundreds of sparrows.
„Come on. Again with your sparrows of death?“ asked Mego.
„These are my new and improved sparrows of death! What do you think I kidnapped the scientists for?“
Hego sighed.
„Okay, but before the fight starts again, I would like to know from you why you didn't set your sparrows on us a few minutes ago?“
„Well, I didn't expect you to come through the front door again.“
Hego asked: “Can you repeat that again?“ and looked from the corner of his eye at his sister.
„I said, I didn't expect you to come through the front door again! I turned on the trap behind it just because I always do. I also didn't expect you to walk into the same trap twice. How stupid must someone be for that?“
„Could you... repeat the last two sentences as well?“ asked Shego and smiled at Hego.
„No! Do I look like a dictaphone, that you can rewind whenever you want to? Prepare yourself to die! New and improved sparrows of death! Attack!“
And so the whole fun started again. And you know what? The sparrows were really new and improved, but to start their new abilities, they needed a longer warm-up and till that was finished, we had already defeated them in the usual way, caught Aviarius and freed the scientists. After one week, he disappeared again from the prison and a huge eagle was seen stealing some ultrasecret thing from an equally ultrasecret military base. And so we could think again of the best way to get into Aviarius' lair.“
„We walk through the front door and,--“
„Stop, stop, stop, Hego, it looks like I'm suffering from a middle ear infection. I can' t hear you right.“
„Would you like to go to a doctor, Shego?“
„Only if you really said that we should go through the front door again. But if you did, you should better consult a doctor, because my ears are fine, but not your brain.“
„Well... I said indeed that we walk through the front door, so... it's good to know that your ears are okay. We go through the front door and,--“
Suddenly Shego held up her arm and jumped excited up and down.
„Question!“
„Yes?“
„Do you remember what happened the last two times, when we walked through the main entrance?“
„Yes, but this time will guaranteed nothing happens, because we know where the trap is and Aviarius won't expect another attack from the front. He even didn't expect us last time and this time he will expect us even less. I mean, honestly, who attacks three time in the same way?“
Before Shego could say anything, Mego kept her mouth shut.
„Sorry, sis, but the longer you two are debating, the longer it takes to foil Aviarius' plans and by the way, you two are annyoing me.“
„He's right. To the front door! What's wrong, Shego? Are you coming with us or do you wanna miss the fun?“
„This time we didn't end in the cage. But when we had opened the next door, we found ourselves suddenly hung in an amazingly cut- and ripproof net, 164 feet over a huge mangler.“
„Well done, Mego,“ grumped Shego.
„What do I have to do with our current situation?“
„YOU opened the door, YOU just walked through it without looking for traps and it was YOU who activated the trap, which is why YOU are stuck together with US in this net.“
Mego thought over it for a short moment.
„Yes, seems like we screwed this up.“
„We!?“
„Well, it doesn't seem like anyone of you tried to stop me.“
„Okay, as soon as we are out of here, I kick your butt so hard, that,--“
„Calm down,“ interrupted Hego her. „Mutual recriminations won't help us now.“
„But he...“
„But she...“
„We will take care of it later, like a family. First we have to take care of Aviarius.“
„First we have to take care of us!“
The loud squeal of a feedback came out of a speaker on the wall, followed by Aviarius' voice.
„This is your end, Team Go! You won't free your yourself from this net and I will, with the secret weapon I stole from the military lab, destroy Go City and later rule the world! Do you have any last words? Yes, uhm, the blue one?“
„The name is Hego and I would like to know what the secret weapon is about?“
„I'm... not telling you!“
„He's got...“ „...no idea,“ said the twins laughing.
„Of course I have an idea! Do you think I steal something, without knowing what it's about? Telling it to you would be just a waste of time and I don't share any information with my arch-enemies anyway. Prepare for your doom!“
„Stop, there is one more thing!“, called Hego. „Why the mangler? Where are your birds?“
„They... are still broken. Bye bye!“
Aviarius flipped a switch and the net with our heroes sank veeeeeery sloooooow down. Meanwhile, the villain left the room, to do other things.
„As slow as this net is, I wonder what will kill us first. The mangler or hunger.“
„Oh shut up, Mego. It's your fault that we are here, so you don't have the right to talk big.“
„Okay, but I could save us all!“
„This is the least you can do.“
„So Mego shrunk himself small enough to slip through the holes of the net, climbed outside, stopped the mangler, and freed us. We ended up fighting a giant eagle, Hego said his Bird-back-in-his-cage-line, Aviarius went to jail, the military got its secret weapon back and Mego reminded us every day that he freed us. Till Aviarius broke out of jail again. And believe it or not, this time we actually crouched through an air shaft, rather than using the front door. And we crouched for a long time. A very long time.“
„I just realized something,“ said Mego to his siblings. „We have been in this ventilating shaft for more than a half hour, and my knees start to hurt. When will we be getting out of here, Hego?“
„Now.“ Hego stopped and peered thorugh an air register. After that, he revised his statement. „Okay, not yet. We have to go on.“
The rest of the team sighed in disappointment.
Shego asked: „Do you even have an idea where we have to go? I don't wanna complain or something like that, although I have had Mego's butt in front of my face for more than 30 minutes, but one part of me is not sure if you know where the trip will end.“
„Don't worry, sis. I read the plans of the building before we started.“
„Can I take a look at them?“
Hego remained silent, which seemed to increase everybody's suspiscion.
„Can... Mego then take a look at it?“
„No, he... can't. I don't have the map with me.“ The Team groaned in annoyance. „But I know where we have to go.“
„Sure?“
„Yes, roughly.“
„What do...“ „...you mean?“
„He means that we are lost.“
„No, we are not. Not at all. We are in the right air shaft. We just have to find the right room.“
„And how would you recognize it?“ asked Mego.
„I... will recognize it. Don't worry.“
Without further discussion with his family, Hego turned around and crouched back down.
„Hego was good and noble and stuff like that to the core, but it was emberassing for him too, when he did something wrong. I liked that. In these moments, he was a human being. And Schadenfreude had something to do with it, too.“
After some more air registers, Hego nodded satisfied and whispered to the rest of the team: „Here we are right. I count to three, then I punch a hole in the wall and we jump out. One, two, three.“
When Hego delivered the bespoken hole, the Team jumped out of it, fell through a trapdoor in the floor and landed it a prison cell.
„I demand a justification for this, fearless leader, „Said Mego, when he realized, what has happened.
„The trapdoor was in a blind spot. I couldn't see it. I made a mistake!“
„So you walked into my trap again,“ called Aviarius, when he suddenly stepped out of the darkness, to the other side of the bars.
„Yes, yes, yes, let's cut this short. We will meet our doom and the wrath of Aviarius, blah blah blah. Now tell us your plan, if you got one, and then activate your deathtrap.“
"Why are you so impatient, young lady? Do you have something else to do?“
„Yes, we wanna escape from your trap, foil your plan and send you back into prison.“
Aviarius sighed.
„Well, looks like I can't suit everybody. My plan is simple. Revenge! Revenge on you! Prepare for your doom and meet my huge, mutated bird spider!“
„At this point I wanna tell you a secret. One of the few things that make me rigid with fear, are giant spiders and insects. When they are small, even if it's a normal sized bird spider, which can be as big as a hand anyway, I don't have a problem with them, but everything from catsize up is too much for me. But only insects and arachnids. Giant squids or gigantic poddles are okay.“
„One...“ „...moment!“ called the twins. „Why does someone...“ „...like you have a bird spider? Don't you...“ „...know why they got their name?“
Aviarius crossed his arms behind his back and looked to the floor.
„Yes,“ he said, „but I ordered it from a catalogue and was a little bit... hasty. I just read 'Bird', transmitted the order number and 48 hours later, there was this huge box standing in front of my door. But that doesn't matter now! Because you are going to die an incredibly cruel death!“
The birdman flipped a switch and the backwall of the cell opened. Behind it was a huge, dark room.
„Aviarius loves huge, dark rooms.“
The Team backed off as far as they could. Behind them laughed Aviarius, in front of them was a huge nothing, from which could any moment could jump an eight legged freak.
Only, that didn't happen.
Aviarius stopped laughing.
„It should have already eaten you. I'm sorry, I don't know what's going on.“
„We can take...“ „...a look,“ said the twins and ran into the darkness.
Shego just called: „No, stay!“ and wanted to hold them, but she was so rigid, that she couldn't move.
„We should go after them and help our brothers,“ said Hego.
„Okay, after you. I'll take care of Shego. She seems to be more pale than usual.“
In that moment the twins came back.
„Your spider...“ „...is dead!“
„By the way, I'm very happy that I never had to see a real giant spider in my whole life.“
„What!? What did you two babies to my incredible costly giant spider!?“
„Nothing.“ „It was already lying there. On its...“ „...back. And the legs...“ „...rolled up. Maybe you...“ „...have fed it wrong.“
„Well, I did not feed it. What should I gave it? Giant locusts? You were supposed to be its first meal!“
Suddenly Hego turned around, grabbed through the bars and seized Aviarus by his collar.
„Looks like this birdy is going back to his cage. And this time it's also for of cruelty to animals.“
Shego drank a sip of tea and yawned.
„You know, it happened over and over for years like that. Jailbreak, evil plan, we sneak into his lair and got caught because of something stupid that my brothers did. Aviarius talks, activates a trap, we escape, foil his plan and bring him back to jail. It was like a very badly written TV show, which showed the same story every week. And there were the small jobs here and there, like when we had to take care of every damned bag-snatcher of the city. And one day, I had enough of all that. I really had.
