Chapter 2

A New Home (Team Go Begins, Part 2)

"Let's come to something more delightful. My brothers and I were brought to the Go City-Orphanage."
Julian lifted his hand reluctantly.
"Uhm, I'm sorry, but why is this delightful?"
"It took at least 70 years, until someone else from my family died."
"Oh, okay. "
"Well, there was a large hullabaloo, because of the meteor. Of course the fire-brigade, police, ambulance, news teams and hundreds of onlookers approached. They all thought that my brothers and I were somewhere else, when it happened. I already told you that we were totally unharmed and if we had told someone, that we in fact hit, they wouldn't have believed us. Before they brought us to the orphanage, they took us to the hospital anyway. The doctors examined us, but they didn't find anything. We were not even in a shock. We didn't talk when nobody asked us, even the babies were quiet, but we seemed to be okay. Except for the fact that we lost our parents because of something, that was more improbable than winning the jackpot in the state lottery. Then we met Mr Pink for the first time. "
"Pink? "
"Pink! He was the director of the orphanage, and because of his name he had a hard job. Try to be taken serious from a bunch of parentless brats, with a name like this. And it got really worse, when this one film came out, a few years later. Always forget its name. Kids were not allowed to watch it, but this has never kept anyone away from anything. Where did I stopp? "
"Mr Pink. "
"Right. Mr Pink. "

A cold, sterile waiting room in the Go City-Hospital.
Hego, Mego and Shego were sitting next to each other on uncomfortable chairs. Hego and Mego were each holding one of the babies. Nobody said anything. They didn't have to. They all thought the same.
Suddenly the door opened and a thin man, with a thick moustache put his head inside the room.
"Hello," he said, "three sad children plus two babies? I'm right. My name is Pink. Mr Pink." "And apart from being Mr Pink, you are...?" asked Shego, while Mr Pink came closer to them. "The director of the orphanage, you are about to go to."

"Orphanage. These nine letters let us wince. We knew, that it won't go on as before, but for any reason no one of us thought about the orphanage."

"See it positive, the orphanage is great."
Hego sighed.
"Doesn't matter how great your orphanage is, our home was definitely better."
"Ts, why does everybody say that? Now come with me, please. Parentless, but otherwise well underaged, who are in hospital after midnight, will be locked up in the basement and have to count for the rest of their lives the pills, that the patients forgot to swallow or just have spit out."

"Mr Pink had a very interesting sense of humor. No, wait. His sense of humor was more odd. Or...I think bizarre is a better description. In fact, we were pretty sure, that he had no sense of humor and when I say 'we' I mean every child and everyone who worked in the orphanage. But as time goes on, you get used to it and in the end he wasn't a bad guy. I liked especially his nonsensitive manner. There's nothing worse than the depressing mood when someone dies. And when you are alone, after that. Mr Pink has always treated us, like nothing happened. Sometimes a foot, that kicks you in your butt, is much better than a hand, which claps you comforting on your shoulder."

30 minutes later, Mr Pink's Minivan arrived together with Shego and her brothers at the Go City-Orphanage.
It was just an old balloon-factory, from which every machine and carcinogenic substances got removed and some walls were added. These walls got painted, some beautiful pictures were hung up, carpets were layed and so "Mittermeier's Balloon Factory" became the Go City-Orphanage.
Mr Pink opened the back door of his car and said in his familar straight way: "Well, welcome in your new home. Probably you will stay here a little bit longer. I would like to say that there will be soon a nice family come to this place and adopt you, but firstly I doubt that you want a new family and secondly it's these days difficult enough to place only childs, and that means that placing a group of five siblings, which includes two teenagers, is nearly impossible."

"Hego sobbed a little, when Mr Pink said that. Sissy."

They came closer to the main entrance.
"When we are inside, you will meet the others. Not all are nice and I don't demand that you make friends with all of them, but don't make trouble. Although you don't look like you were up to this."
"Well, Shego maybe", Mego whispered.
"What?"
"Nothing."

"When you got taken to prison, there is always one inmate, who knows why you are here, doesn't matter what you did, and he tells it to at least three other persons. They tell it another three persons and so on. It was the same in the orphanage."

As soon as they entered the building, dozens of eyes stared at them. There was also a whispering, and sometimes a giggle to hear.

"They knew it. We're the ones from the news. The ones, who where there, just because of a mood of the universe. We were the meteorkids."

Mr Pink stopped.
"What's wrong? Is something hanging out of my nose? You will have enough time to stare at the new ones, so there is no reason to do it now."
The kids got away in every direction.
Just a little girl kept staying there and said: "Mr Pink, there is really something hanging out of your nose."
"Is it green?"
"Yes."
"No Panic, that's normal."
"But it looks disgusting."
"I know and I'm really happy, that I can't see my nose without using a mirror. Now please go away and do something else."
"Okay."
While the girl left the room, a really stressed looking woman entered it through the same door.
"Thank god, you are back. You won't believe, what Dennis West did."
"He brewed some rose hip tea for all the others and talked about his feelings?"
"No."
"But it would be different. Send him to my office, he shall tell me. Oh, and is his victim allright?"
"Well, Ted never really cared about oral hygiene, so I don't know if he will miss his front teeth."
"Okay. I just bring the new kids to their room and then I come."
"But clean your nose first."

"Our room was...nice. There were five beds, but one of them would on the same day replaced by a double-baby cot. Every bed had a nightstand, we had a window, a carpet, electric light, a shelf and a closet, if we should ever own some stuff again. It was much better than you expect from an orphanage."

"Well, just for you, the family-residence. Now rest, if you can. Tomorrow we'll go shopping. You can't wear the same clothes for the rest of your lifes."

"Did I mentioned that even our clothes were much cleaner, after the meteor has hit us?"

"Look at your tiny feet!" laughed a dirty boy behind them.
Mr Pink turned around, while Shego, Hego and Mego looked at their feet."

"For any reason we appreciated in this moment for the first time, that we really had tiny feet. At least Hego and I . Well, the babies too."

"Dennis", said Mr Pink to the boy, "Exactly the person I wanna talk to."
"Ted hit his teeth out by himself. Ask him."
"I don't have to, because it doesn't matter what he will say, I won't believe you."
"Why? Why am I always the villain?"
"Because you are always the villain! Start using your damn head, for Pete's sake!"
"Or what? You can't kick me out of here!"
"No, but I could lock you up in the cupboard, until you come to reason."
Dennis just laughed the typical, uninteressed laughter of a mouthy underaged.
"You won't do that."
"And what if?"
Something in Mr Pink's voice made Dennis nervous.
"Then...I call the TV."
"If you want to, but I don't think that they will believe you."
Dennis got more nervous.
"Why?" he asked.
"Look at you. You are an ugly, smelly bully. Your chances would be bigger, if you were a nice, cute kid." He pulled Shego to his side. "What was your name again?"
"Uhm, Shego."
"Interesting name. Now say please: 'Mr Pink has beat me up with an iron bar', Shego."
"Mr...Pink has beat me up with an iron bar?"
Mr Pink threw his hand up in horror and cried: "Oh no, how could I!? I'm such a monster! She doesn't show any signs of a misstreatment like this and I know, that I haven't done it, but I believe her anyway. You know why?" He pointed at Shego. "Little, lovely girl." Then he pointed at Dennis. "You."

"This was the last time, that someone called me that."

Mr Pink continued.
"You don't have many possibilities in your life and it's time, that you chose the right one. A small hint: What you are doing now is wrong. Now get out of my sight."
Dennis clenches his fists and said quietly, but not too quietly: "If you were not you."
Mr Pink smiled.
"It seems like you suddenly show something like respect to other people. Even if it's just me. Come on, hit me". Dennis just blinked surprised. "This chance will never come back, hit me. I offer you one hit for free. Let's see if you feel better, after that." Dennis striked out and aimed at Mr Pinks stomach, but he just blocked the punch with his left and hit him with his flat hand on the forehead. Shego, Hego and Mego tried to smile not too obvious, when Dennis landed on his butt.
"You see? " said Mr Pink. "That's not so funny, isn't it?"

Shego ate a strawberry, that she has picked out of a bowl on the table.
"I really know a few people, who would be impressed by Pink's speech. It wasn't the case with Dennis, but I will tell more about him later."
"Did he played an important role in your life?"
"Yes and no. Like I already said, I'll tell more about him later, because it's more interesting, what happened on that night."
